It’s been a couple of days since Hudson turned one and a half, and like always, I’m trying to figure out how time went by so quickly. I can attest to the old saying that the days are long and the years (or weeks or months- really whatever you’re counting) are short, and lately the days have felt VERY long (hello separation anxiety and possible two year molars). Since we just hit the one and a half year mark though, I thought it would be a good time to share some of what Hudson is up to so I can look back and remember in a few years.
Hudson now knows quite a few words and is learning more and more each day. It surprises me how quickly he picks up on things and how many new things he learns each day. His favorite words to say right now are “Kiki” (in reference to any blankie), “Kitty Kitty”, “Puppy”, “Boo”, “Dada”, “WOW!”, and “Read”, though he knows quite a few more.
Aside from knowing a lot of words, he also knows how to hug, give kisses, blow kisses, and give out high fives. He’s a little flirt when we are out and about and loves to shake his head “no” for attention. Though he uses “no” correctly most of the time, he does shake his head no at random times, like when I tell him I love him. I always follow up with, “I really do!” which usually results in a coy little smile.
Hudson loves petting the cats when they’ll let him and he is definitely puppy obsessed! He is also blanket obsessed. He has to have a blanket to go to sleep, cuddle, read, be in the car with, etc. Basically, he just really loves blankets! I’m thankful he’s not attached to any one blanket so I can wash them when needed.
A few more things he loves (in no particular order) are: running around outside and picking grass/weeds, reading in my lap (I’m soaking it up), being chased and tickled, jumping in his crib, cars, and rocking together before bed. That last one is a result of the separation anxiety, and while there’s not a whole lot of awesome to come from that anxiety, our nightly ritual of rocking together is definitely a silver lining.
He’s not super picky when it comes to food, though I’ve found a few things he doesn’t like to eat (he gives everything a chance though!). He’s not a fan of mushrooms, grilled cheese, or seafood, but devours pretty much everything else we put in front of him (most days).
He spends a majority of his day laughing, smiling, and dancing around, though he does have his moments of frustration and meltdowns. We are still working on gentle touches (instead of straight smacking) and listening.
Though the days are long, I’m thankful I get to spend my time with him and watch him grow. It’s been amazing to watch his personality develop and I’m excited to see what the next half of the year brings us!
