I started drafting this blog post shortly after I posted this one to make sure I would remember all of the things Hudson did each month. When I started typing things down, his first birthday seemed SO far off, yet here we are. We have a one year old and I’m still trying to figure out how that happened. Just like with the first 6 months, I want to remember what happened, so here is a recap of the last 6 months of Hudson’s first year!
Month 7
We started month 7 with a trip to St.Louis to visit with family, take my sister-in-law’s maternity pictures, and celebrate the twin and I’s birthday. We had such a fun time getting to see everyone! The only downside was that someone was teething (and it wasn’t me) and that someone (ahem, Hudson) and I ended up with colds.
Month 7 was also the month we got evacuated due to the hurricane, Hudson said his first word, “Mama!”, and learned to crawl! It was quite the month! He also started making people laugh on purpose by shaking his head!
Month 8
This is the month Hudson started jumping on his own and pulling himself up on things! He also got to go on his first bus ride to the Mumfest in New Bern. Month 8 brought pumpkin patches with good friends and pumpkin painting! It also brought his first (of many I’m sure) airshows! I’m not sure he appreciated them as much as he will in the future.
Month 9
Month 9 was quite busy and started off with several playdates (and a new discovery of how awesome swings are)! It was also Hudson’s first Halloween and trick-or-treating experience! To be fair though, he only lasted about 10 minutes into trick-or-treating before he fell asleep!
This is the month Hudson started giving kisses (or rather imitating the kissing sound), licking pretty much everything, sticking his tongue out at people to get them to smile, and dancing! He also started saying, “Nan!” and “Dada!”. On occasion he would also say his own version of “meow”.
Month 9 also brought Hudson’s first sleepover! The husband and I went to the Marine Corps Ball in Myrtle Beach so our really good friends watched Hudson overnight! We are so thankful for good friends!
Month 10
In month 10, Hudson got to finger paint for the first time (not on a pumpkin)! He had fun making gifts for the grandparents and got quite messy! It was fun to watch him explore a new texture. Month 9 was also Hudson’s first Thanksgiving, though we celebrated the weekend before since he had *little boy* surgery the day before actual Thanksgiving. He really started loving food this month so it was awesome to watch him enjoy classic Thanksgiving foods!
Another fun thing Hudson got to experience for the first time in month 10 was walking through a festival of lights with friends! He enjoyed looking at all the lights, but I don’t think he appreciated how cold it was!
Month 11
This was the month of Hudson’s first road trip to MO with both Mommy and Daddy to celebrate his first Christmas with family! We had so much fun (and were equally exhausted) from seeing anyone and everyone that we possibly could while we were back home! While at home, he started standing on his own and even took a few wobbly steps on our road trip back!
Hudson also appeared to be very happy in month 10, since he clapped every time we sang “If You’re Happy and You Know It”. He also clapped along to other versions like “If You’re Hudson and You Know It” or an all time favorite “If You’re Tired and You Know It”.
Month 12
Month 12 was a big one for us! Hudson started walking!! Such a big milestone! I love that he is more mobile now (though it sure does keep me on my feet)! He loves chasing the cats around and will occasionally give them “nice pets”, when they let him near anyway.
In month 12, we also celebrated Hudson’s first Valentine’s Day! We don’t do a whole lot for Valentine’s Day around here (and the husband was away on training), so we were pretty low key.
Though parts of Hudson’s first year of life were a little hard (welcome to having children), I wouldn’t trade any of it! It’s been so fun watching him grow into the little human he is and to see his personality really come to life!
