This time last year, I was in my apartment getting ready for the first of many nights without the husband (almost 9 months of nights, if we’re counting). He had landed in VA and was starting his 10 weeks at Officer Candidate School, followed by a lot more weeks at The Basic School.
I’m relishing in the fact that tonight, as I write this, my husband is sitting by my side. It’s crazy what a difference a year can make. In the past year, the husband graduated from OCS and TBS, I resigned from teaching (and was lucky enough to be a long-term sub in “my” classroom at the beginning of the year), we got married (again!), we moved to a new state, and I started this blog (obviously a LOT more happened, but I’d be here all night if I went through all of it!)! Though the past year was rough, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I truly believe that absence makes the heart grow fonder (though, don’t get me wrong, being together is WAY better). I think we were really able to grow as a couple, and it has definitely made me more cognizant of our time together. I can’t tell you how incredible the past 3.5 months have been having him back, and I know things are only going to get more amazing as he progresses through the rest of his training (and career).
Speaking of which, he gets to do his solo flight tomorrow for the first time! He did his check ride today and did a great job! My heart always swells with pride watching him excel at the things he loves to do. Don’t worry, I’ll have pictures of his solo tomorrow!
On a completely different note, I finally got back in the gym today! I haven’t been to a gym since we moved here, and it was definitely time to start that back up. I went to Beyond Barre yesterday with two gals who have husbands going through flight school as well, and let me tell you, it was a GREAT workout! It was so fast paced and the class flew by. I’m definitely feeling it today (though the instructor told us day 2 would be when you could REALLY feel it). Anyway, I’m hoping this is the beginning of sticking with the working out. This week my focus is working out, and next week I’ll bring in the healthy eating (baby steps right??). I did buy a pineapple today, now I just have to get the husband to cut it for me! 😉
