Y’all, Hudson is officially 6 months old (okay, okay, he’s been 6 months old for a couple of weeks now, but I’m just now getting around to this)! How in the world did that happen? Wasn’t it just February? These past 6 months have simultaneously flown by and, at points, crawled (I’m looking at you months 2-3). My baby is seeming less and less like a baby each day, and while part of my mama heart is sad, the other is a whole lot of happy. My son has so much personality now and I don’t want to wish away time, but I can’t wait to see more of it.
In honor of his half birthday, that I definitely think we should have celebrated (hello birthday cake), I’ve decided to recap the first 6 months of his life (what I can remember of it anyway). Just like with Hudson’s birth story, I know I won’t always remember the small things, so I figured this would be a wonderful way to document some of it.
Month 1
Month 1 was filled with all kinds of fun things (not including the week spent in the hospital). The husband and I both got to have family come and visit to meet Hudson and we got to navigate being a family of 3. The weeks after we brought Hudson home are pretty much a blur, so I’m so happy I’ve got pictures to remind me of the first month we were blessed to have him in our family.
Month 2
In month two we got to visit MO for the first time! I was so nervous for riding on a plane with a new baby, but Hudson did so well and actually got quite a few compliments. I suppose the amount of sleeping he was still doing sure didn’t hurt…
While we were in MO, Hudson and I enjoyed shooting a wedding (though again, he slept most of the time) and he got to meet a lot of new people! It was also the place where he did his first belly to back roll!
Though month 2 was filled with some really wonderful experiences (like Hudson giving me his first real smile), it was also filled with tummy troubles for our little man and the husband leaving for ITX (a 6 week training exercise and our first military separation as new parents).
Month 3
Month 3 brought our first trip to the beach, though we really just stayed on the boardwalk. It was also the month that Aunt Manda came to visit! Shortly after she left, Hudson and I traveled home to MO by car. Let me just tell you, I’ve never seen longer days than being in the car with a 3 month old! Thankfully, that trip got Hudson use to the car and now he doesn’t mind going for rides. It was also a lot of fun to get to go home and see everyone, with no real schedule!
While we were in MO, we got to celebrate my first Mother’s Day! Hudson woke up early and made me breakfast in bed…I mean, I woke up early and made Hudson breakfast in bed.
The husband got lucky and got to skip a majority of Hudson’s early morning wakings, since he started sleeping through the night in month 3 (the week before he came home from ITX). He also got to miss out on a majority of tummy troubles since they got better at the end of month 3!
Month 4
So much happened in month 4! We went to our second wedding, but as guests this time (I got to be in the wedding), and Nan got to join us (so she could watch Hudson). It was also the month that the husband came home and we experienced Hudson’s first laugh, first Father’s Day, and back to belly rolls.
Month 5
The day Hudson turned 5 months old, he got to meet his future wife! We also had our first visit to the husband’s work (he had duty) and Hudson’s first close up of the CH-53.
Month 5 also included Hudson’s first pool day with friends and our second trip to beach where he finally got to dip his toes in the water.
It was also the month when we got the hear his first real belly laugh (the best sound in the world) and celebrate his first 4th of July. A couple of weeks after that, Hudson got to go on his first ferry ride (AND drive the boat)! He wasn’t too sure about that, but thankfully he did a great job steering. It was also the first month he got to sleep in his crib!
Month 6
Month 6 was by far my favorite month (minus the two teeth that cut in during this month, though they do make for a super cute smile). We got to spend some time at a Polynesian festival, we had several playdates, and we started going to story time, which he absolutely loves (and to be honest, so do I).
He also got his first real taste of food! He’s still getting use to it and I’d by lying if I said I wasn’t excited to see what his favorite foods will be (though I’m told they’ll constantly be changing).
Though I’ve loved the last 6 months of this little guy’s life, I’m definitely excited to see what the next 6 months will bring!
