This past weekend we finally made our way to the North Carolina Aquarium with Hudson. The husband and I have been wanting to take him there for awhile now and finally had the time (and energy) to do it!
The husband and I have been to this aquarium before (and the one in KC where we had our first date as a couple), but wanted to get Hudson there to see everything. He’s technically been before, but really only technically (i.e. he was in his mama’s belly last time).
We made a rookie mistake and let him have nap time in the car so we could get there with plenty of time to explore. He woke up a little cranky and didn’t really enjoy the first part of the aquarium, though he was pretty interested in the otters. He was also scared of the bigger fish, but I suppose that’s pretty understandable as they were almost as big (if not bigger) than him!
Once we got to the ocean section of the aquarium, he was starting to get into it! I think his favorite thing there was the stingray exhibit. I’m sure he will love that even more when he’s old enough to “pet” them! Though he enjoyed seeing the fish and other underwater creatures, I think he had the most fun flirting and “talking” with people. He’s such a little people person and I love it!
After exploring the aquarium and buying Hudson a book (you can never have too many), we decided to explore the nature trail right outside the entrance. Hudson loved exploring the trail with his daddy and even got to play in the dirt!
So far I’ve loved being a boy mom, but I know it’s going to get a lot harder for me, especially when it comes to letting him play in dirt, pick up bugs (and other creepy crawlers), and do normal little boy things. While we were on the trail, Hudson got dirt in his mouth so I told the husband and he said, “Eh, it’s good for him!”. I love that Hudson has a dad that wants to do outdoor things with him (don’t get me wrong, I LOVE being outdoors and doing outdoor things, just not in the way little boys do). They both have so much fun together and it makes my heart burst!
