Even though it’s technically been fall for awhile now, it’s just now starting to feel less like summer and more like fall around here and I am loving it! I figured now would be a good time to recap September and October before it’s suddenly December and I can’t remember what actually happened in “fall” (yes, I know fall isn’t over, but everyone knows there’s typically a fine line between it finally feeling like fall and winter arriving, uninvited, entirely way too early).
At the end of August/beginning of September, Hudson and I traveled to St.Louis to see family and take my sister-in-law’s maternity pictures (and a few family photos)! I was so happy we got to be there and take those pictures, and I’m beyond excited to meet Jackson when we head back for Christmas! We also celebrated the twin and I’s birthday! It was wonderful to get to hang out with family since it’s not often that we get to. The day after we got home, we were supposed to head to Charlotte to meet the husband for Marine Week, but since Hudson and I were both getting over colds, we decided to stay home.
The week after we got back (and the day after the husband got home), Hurricane Florence decided she was going to head straight for us so we decided to evacuate. We got VERY lucky and were able to head to GA to hang out with friends who are family (I think the kids are calling that “Framily” these days). Though it was definitely nerve-wracking not knowing what was happening to our home, it was a nice little vacation. Hudson and I loved getting to have a lot of quality time with the husband, and it was so fun to explore a little bit of downtown Savannah.
Our “hurrication” lasted a little over a week and we were so blessed and thankful there wasn’t any damage to our home. It was hard trying to decide what all we needed to take with us, not knowing what would be waiting for us when we got back. We were lucky and were able to grab everything that is irreplaceable to us (mainly important documents and paintings from dad, grandma, great-grandma and a few other personalized pieces from others). Going around taking pictures (for insurance purposes) made me realize just how much I need to purge and organize! That’ll be a project for the new year…
Though September was a crazy month, I’m happy to report October has been a bit more mellow. We got to take Hudson to his first pumpkin patch and he got to go on his first hayride (and see his first magic show)! I love getting to experience firsts as a family! I’m so grateful that the husband has been around for a good number of firsts so far and I’m excited to share more of those as a family.
The day after the pumpkin patch, the husbands parents drove this way to stay with us for a week. We met them in VA to go to an airshow and then had a pretty low-key week. The husband and I were able to get away for a night and go to a Wine (…sparkling grape juice…) and Paint night. We went during the week and actually had the whole place to ourselves (minus the teacher obviously)! It was so fun and I think our pictures turned out pretty cute!
The rest of October included attending the Mumfest, visiting with one of Christian’s good friends, and Hudson painting a pumpkin (i.e. we put the pumpkin and paint in a Ziploc bag for a mess free paint session)! He wasn’t quite sure about it, but did a great job!
Now that I’ve caught you up on the happenings of September and October, you’ll have to excuse me while I go watch Hocus Pocus for the umpteenth time before it is no longer socially acceptable to do so!
