A lot has happened since the last time I caught you all up! I survived the beast known as state testing, I finished my 3rd year of teaching (and hopefully my last year of teaching 4th grade- I loved my kids, but give me the little ones), I visited MO, the husband finally winged, and SURPRISE! We are going to have a baby! I won’t go into detail about the first few things that happened (or the fact that we are having a baby, because let’s be real, there will be more on the baby in months to come), instead, I’ll focus on the husband’s winging.
Two weeks ago, the husband’s family and my family made the drive down to FL from MO to celebrate in the winging festivities. It was wonderful to have everyone here to celebrate such an amazing accomplishment.
On Thursday, we got to tour all of the places the husband works, as well as try out NVGs (night vision goggles) and fly the simulators (since I’m basically a pro from the two I’ve tried, I sat out and let everyone else have a chance 😉 ). It was really great to see what the husband does day in and day out (or at least get a snapshot of some of it).
After touring everything, we attended his Soft Patch Ceremony, which is where the instructors tell a story about the student from their time in the aircraft, and then the instructor switches out the student’s patch for the fancy one with the wings! It was pretty hilarious to hear some of the stories shared (not just about the husband, but the other students as well).
On Friday, we headed to base for the Blessing of the Wings and then the actual Winging Ceremony. I would try to describe these ceremonies, but I don’t think I could accurately describe how amazing it all is, so I will just show you some of the pictures instead.
It’s hard to believe the husband is done with this phase of his career, but we are definitely looking forward to the many adventures ahead of us. Watch out North Carolina, we’re headed your way!
