There it is. Sitting outside in their front lawn. The “FOR SALE” sign and over that, there will soon be a “SOLD” sign. Our neighbors have officially sold their house and I’d be lying if we said we weren’t sad about it.
Y’all, these are the people who came over to our house at 9pm the night we got here to invite us to join them for dinner. They’re the people who mowed our lawn when the husband was away at training and I was at home with a newborn. They’re the people who invited me over countless times for dinner and adult interaction during that same training and the ones that checked in on me to make sure I was doing okay.
These are the people who took evening walks with us and had playdates in the yard. They’re the people I imagined sitting outside on the porch with when all of our kids were old enough to ride bikes and yell and play around the neighborhood. They’re the people who invited us over to celebrate their little boy’s birthday and mine at the same time (we have the same birthday!). They’re the people Hudson looks for each time we are in our yard.
They were here when we brought Hudson home, being our first visitors outside of our family. We were here when they brought their sweet little girl home, and we were here when their amazing, full of life little boy was diagnosed with Leukemia.
There’s obviously a lot to be said about watching a little kid go through what he has, and to watch his family, the best neighbors we’ve ever been blessed with, go through what they’ve been through. I want to focus instead on the friendship they provided us while we were lucky enough to call them our neighbors.
We will forever miss having them live next door. We know it’s not “Goodbye” though, but rather “See ya later!”
